Isle of Skye Photo Book (Brief tech note : all the pics are in a frame of 800 x 600 px) These pictures are simply holiday snaps...of a place I've come to think of as almost a second home. I first visited in 1960, but hardly saw a thing. Certainly the Cuillins may as well not have been there, But some time later, it was so very different. A three month stay at Glenbrittle gave all the time in the world to become familiar with the great ridge. With casual companions from the camp site, I climbed many of the major peaks, and covered a fair bit of the ridge itself. And that with a young GSD who turned out to be amazingly sure footed. I visited then as often as possible, but my two young daughters failed to share my enthusiasm for mountains in general, and the Cuillins in particular. Now I travel up once a year...unfortunately only level walking now for me. But that still leaves plenty, if not more than plenty, for me to explore and photograph. There are hundreds of professional photos of this area. I have never tried to match them, although some of my pics from the ridge were pretty awesome. BUT. They were Kodachrome slides, and, not foreseeing the possibility of digitizing them, I ditched them around 1998. I groan about that frequently. The ones in this site are what you may call "walk in pictures". I take the light as it comes, and simply find a reasonable viewpoint. I use an Ixus and a Nikon, sometimes with a tripod. But I remain basically a "snapper", re-recording pictures of places I've known for decades. However, I like the results enough to post them for anybody else to enjoy.
